TxDOT is getting ready to break ground on a project to improve safety along an 8-mile stretch of US 290 in Bastrop County.
This project will construct new eastbound lanes in new right of way on US 290, and add a grassy median with a cable barrier. Inside and outside shoulders will also be constructed. This project, also known as the “gap” project, will complete the final 4-lane divided section of US 290 between Elgin and Paige.
The west end of US 290 East was completed in 2008. The east end was completed in 2016.
The $34.4 million project is funded by TxDOT. It is expected to be complete by summer 2021, weather permitting.
