The Texas Department of Transportation will close the southbound I-35 mainlanes in south Austin to allow construction crews to place steel beams as part of the I-35 Capital Express South project. To perform work safely, TxDOT says crews will close the southbound I-35 mainlanes from SH 71/Ben White Boulevard to Stassney Lane for two nights, weather permitting. Detours will be in place.
From westbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard: Drivers will take the northbound I-35 exit, then exit Oltorf Street and use the U-turn to access southbound I-35.
From eastbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard: Drivers will take the Congress Avenue exit ramp, continue to the I-35 frontage road and turn right.
Road signs will be placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closures.
