Vice President JD Vance is visiting Austin on Monday, with city officials warning of significant traffic delays and road closures that will extend into Tuesday.

The visit is expected to impact travel routes between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and downtown, with rolling road closures planned as the vice president’s motorcade moves through the city.

According to the City of Austin, major closures will focus on the Cesar Chavez Street corridor in downtown.

Cesar Chavez Street between Brazos Street and Interstate 35 is scheduled to be closed beginning at noon Monday and is expected to remain shut down until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Additional closures are expected along routes connecting the airport to downtown, particularly Monday morning, with traffic disruptions likely to continue into Tuesday evening.

City officials are urging residents to plan ahead, avoid affected areas, and use alternative routes or public transportation when possible. Parking along the motorcade route is also discouraged.

Vance’s visit is part of a multi-city trip that includes a stop in Austin for a Republican National Committee fundraiser before continuing on to Dallas.

The city says drivers should expect delays throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday morning, especially in downtown Austin and near the airport.

Officials are asking for patience as security measures are implemented during the visit.
