An Austin lawmaker is trying to close a loophole in the state’s Whistleblower Act.
Austin State Representative Celia Israel says a lot of Central Texans work for the government. She wants to see protection expanded for those who report wrongdoing. “The law right now says that their job is protected, but their job is only protected if they report to law enforcement.” Israel says that’s not always practical and needs to be expanded. “We think they should be protected if they go to their HR Director or their supervisor.”
Israel says her bill is being heard in committee and is optimistic of its chances of becoming law.
