WilCo to Terminate Contract with Immigrant Detention Center

On Tuesday, Williamson County commissioners voted to end the county’s contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and CoreCivic, a corrections facility management company that currently runs the T. Don Hutto facility in Taylor.

Hundreds of protesters flocked to the courthouse demanding an end to the contract, with some stomping on pictures of President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions as they called for an outright end to all immigration enforcement.

The county’s decision to terminate the contract will not have any impact on the facility itself, which will still be operated and maintained by the federal government.

The contract will expire on January 31, 2019.
