Almost 91,000 people in the Austin area filed unemployment claims for June, bringing the unemployment rate to 7.6%, that is actually much lower than May’s rate. The Texas Workforce Commission said, this week will be the last that the extra $600 in federal aid will be added to payouts. The program is expiring July 25, and only the U.S. Congress has the authority to extend it.
