The Montreal Canadiens avoided a sweep by Tampa Bay in the Stanley Cup Final series, by defeating the Lightning 3-2 in overtime on Monday in Bell Centre.
Canadiens right wing Josh Anderson scored two goals, including the game-winner at 3:57 of overtime. Tampa Bay had outshot Montreal 34-21 and hit three goalposts on the night, including one from Nikita Kucherov with 2:27 remaining in the third and the score tied at two.
Tampa Bay, who defeated the Dallas Stars in last year’s Stanley Cup, now leads Montreal three games to one in the best-of-seven matchup following its Game 4 loss. Game 5 heads back to Tampa, and is scheduled for Wednesday, July 7 at 8 p.m. ET.
