Austin opens Headquarters for new US Army Futures Command

Austin officially becomes Headquarters for the new US Army Futures Command

Governor Abbott says the goal of the latest army reorganization that led to the new Futures headquarters here is to move the army from the industrial age to the information age at the speed of innovation. General Eric Wesley said the downtown headquarters will hold 500 service members and local talent.

The new headquarters is part of the Army’s biggest reorganization effort since 1973, the objective is to modernize equipment at a faster pace. Governor Abbott will join the Secretary of the Army Mark Esper at today’s ceremony.

The Downtown Austin command will oversee all new army technologies for decades.  Governor Abbott says it was the local pool of brainpower that made Austin the obvious choice.

Army Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley credited the work of ailing Senator John McCain for making the new headquarters a reality.
