A man is in custody after opening fire in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Bastrop on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a large law enforcement response.
According to the Bastrop Police Department, officers were called to the store in the 100 block of Hunters Crossing Boulevard around 3:49 p.m. following reports of an active shooter.
Investigators say the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kobe Lee Mosser, drove into the parking lot and began firing an AR-15-style rifle at multiple vehicles. At one point, he exited his vehicle and continued shooting.
Police say the first responding officer was able to quickly take Mosser into custody without incident.
Despite the chaos, no injuries were reported, though multiple vehicles were damaged. Authorities are still working to determine the full extent of the property damage and how many people were affected, including reports involving families in the area.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with people running and taking cover as shots were fired in the busy parking lot.
Police say there are no additional suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
