Austin ISD’s Superintendent says they will hos online classes for students in Kindergarten on up through the 6th grade this coming fall semester. But since schools wont be held “blameless” for in person absences as they were last school year, officials say this will cost them state funding.

In Monday’s AISD Schoolboard meeting, the district’s George Gogonas explained each student that does enroll in online class will cost the district $9000. Since the district doesn’t know how many students in total will enroll or how long these classes will be offered, Gogonas added, its hard to guess just how much it will all tally up to. But he estimates the online program will cost anywhere between $4.5 million and $45 million.

Austin ISD is already working with a defect budget.
