The Austin Police Department has provided more details about a deadly shooting that happened on January 8, 2024.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting at the Avalon Palms apartment complex on Northgate Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found Francisco Muntufa Miranda, 21, wounded by a gunfire. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

A three-month investigation began, which eventually led detectives to serve a search warrant on March 26 at a home near Loyola Lane and Decker Lane, and the 13-year-old suspect was arrested. Detectives also determined the young teen was involved in a drive-by shooting at a convenience store on December 20, 2023. At the time of that shooting, nine people were inside of the store, including five children. No injuries were reported. A 15-year-old was later arrested in connection to that shooting.

The teen accused of killing Miranda now faces a charge of murder, as well as five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
