Georgetown church will continue to rent space from the Austin school district

A Georgetown church will continue to rent space from the Austin school district despite protests from gay rights activists.

The Celebration Church has been renting out AISD’s Performing Arts Center, but that recently drew the ire of LGBT activists who says because the church supports traditional marriage between a man and a woman, AISD is supporting hatred and discrimination by allowing the church to rent that center.

But AISD has sided with the church, saying it all continue to allow church services to continue.  Attorney General Ken Paxton sent word to AISD last week warning the district that refusal to allow Celebration Church to rent the space would be a First Amendment violation.  At least two AISD board members remain opposed to the decision.
