Williamson County officials have issued warning to residents following a sharp increase in fentanyl poisonings in Travis County this week. Reports indicate a 1000 percent spike in fentanyl-related incidents, with at least 75 overdoses, and at least eight of which have resulted in death.

This surge emphasizes the presence of an exceptionally lethal batch of drugs circulating the area, posing a significant threat to public health and safety.

“We cannot overstate the urgency of this situation,” emphasized Sheriff Mike Gleason of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. “The recent spike in fentanyl poisonings in Travis County serves as a stark reminder of the deadly nature of this substance. We must all take proactive steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

Williamson County is urging residents to engage in open and honest conversations with family members, particularly teenagers, about the risks associated with fentanyl and other dangerous drugs.
